I'm having a Catharsis.....finally

Uh. Well.
The sun helped me out on this one, the weather inspired me today.
Makes me want to spend a lot more time outside versus inside.
I'm prepared for it, I'm excited. I think I'm going to buy a kayak so
I have something to do when I'm outside. I wish I didn't live in ATL
anymore. I miss sub-rural areas like home where I could just go in
the woods whenever I felt the urge to connect to nature, which I have
often. Spring is finally here, maybe the weather will stay like this.

Graffiti Beat

This are some graffiti examples I found in Carrollton. Typical train graffiti, to me its almost art. It has color and some shape but its really just a tag from the looks of it. This is my interpretation, this is not open for discussion. Its not art.

I love this piece of Architecture

This is awesome, I would love to own this. I love water and I love how futuristic it looks. Would be cool to eat breakfast there in the morning.

Fashion as Art

fash⋅ion [fash-uh n]

the make or form of anything

Fashion is art. Applied art. We use it every day when we wake up and put on some clothes. When we bought those clothes we considered color, patterns, shape, lines, (probably price ^_^ ), and maybe for some but this doesn't apply, labels.

However, for the four applicable attributes mentioned, they are all elements of art. Its really just a simple way for an individual express, (or in some cases conform), themselves. Its as simple as that really.

The Art of this Culture

First off...... define "this." There are many cultures, even in America. Which can be broken into sub-cultures, etc...

I'm going to assume you mean the culture of America as a whole, which is very broad.

However, on that note, I think the American Culture when it reflects art is in flux right now. Art experts are busy trying to document past movements and get everything analyzed and recognized.
Yet, they are still trying to do the same for current art. I think they are delving too far into the catalog aspect of it and not putting it out there just for the beauty of it. Obviously this isn't for all art, just what the experts see as "defining pieces." Artists are using all types of styles nowadays both present/progressive and styles from past movements. Its kinda unfair to some to get swept back and wait for 40 years while the experts are catching up trying to document the past.

ART . . . . . . . and human nature & behavior

Firstly, my personal definition of "human nature & behavior" (these are the same to me) is how we react to things and how we deal with them. It is programmed in us to take something and make it better, history shows that thousands of times. When coupled with art I'd say that this is where a lot of our applied art comes from. We take something, we make it better, we use it, we add flair to it.
For example, cars, every year companies come out with new, more efficient, safer automobiles. Yes, the argument is there that they do it yearly to make profit. However, the aforementioned improvements still remain. Its in our nature to succeed and applied art is one of the ways we do just that.

Meet this Artist I know

Well the artist I'm introducing goes by the name of John Dance.
He happens to be my room mate, which is the easiest way of summing it up. (girlfriend's sister's boyfriend)
John is a musician, a very talented musician.
He is heavily skilled at guitar, bass guitar, drums, keys, and singing.
John is currently a keyboardist in an up and coming band Ponderosa.
Ponderosa is a southern rock outfit that will make you want to grow your hair out and go out by the river and just 'sit a while.'
John plays keyboard in this band and does a lot of background vocals aswell.
They recently toured with Butch Walker and are talking about upcoming tours with bands which I won't name (I'm not telling any secrets)
Ponderosa just recently finished up recording their album in the past month and should be distributing soon so check 'em out! Support a GA band!

My Favorite Artist

My favorite artist would come in the form of a group. A group called Between the Buried and Me (BTBAM). They derive their name from a Counting Crows lyric, I can't remember what song off the top of my head. However, this group is nothing like Counting Crows. This group has been very influential and progressive in the last 6 or 7 years.

BTBAM is comprised of five people, a vocalist/keyboardist, two guitarists, one bassist, and one drummer. They are all extremely talented at their instruments and show that through their music. Its very technical but it flows in almost an unexplainable way.

Their latest album "Colors" was themed in a way where every song had a respective color it represented and they did an excellent job on portraying that in their songs. Their website alone is a work of art, they take the time to break down the meaning of their songs and also leave them open for interpretation for fans to give their opinions.

Check em out, yes its loud, don't be afraid. There is something there if you give it a chance and learn to APPRECIATE it.

Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is likely to be the most influential movie of the nineties. It is a story about one man who is nothing outside of ordinary with a less than average I.Q. who experiences and accomplishes amazing feats. It is a work of art because it comprises all of the major historical events in the late twentieth century and Forrest has some role to play in them. Stringing the events together in a way that would mesh is a feat in itself and thus makes it a work of art. I would recommend this movie to anyone, it applies to all sorts of situations. The movie alone covers Vietnam, Segregation, Integration, Disability, Love, Protests, and some other fictional feats that are admirable and moving.
